Exhibition catalogue Ferdinand Hodler (English version) - Beyeler Foundation, Switzerland (January 27 - May 26, 2013).
In series and variations, Hodler lent new and liberated expression to the enduring themes of his life: the beauty of Switzerland’s lakes and mountains, his fascination with women, the examination of his own existence, and the confrontation with death. The catalogue is the first publication to provide an extensive overview of Hodler’s late works from the years 1913 to 1918.
These include self-portraits by the artist, the impressive series of paintings and drawings in which he chronicles the suffering and death of his lover, Valentine Godé-Darel, and many magnificent panoramas of the Alps and Lake Geneva painted in close-up or from a distance at various times of the day and year. A particular highlight is Hodler’s monumental wall painting, View to Infinity.
The catalogue contains a preface by Sam Keller and Ulf Küster and texts by Oskar Bätschmann, Sharon Hirsh, Ulf Küster, Jill Lloyd, Paul Müller and Peter Pfrunder .
