Exhibition Catalogue Julien des Monstiers, presented at the Château de Chambort (25 May - 3 November 2024) and at the Suquet des artistes, Cannes (11 May - 22 September 2024).
For Julien des Monstiers, each painting constitutes a whole whose different ways of doing things are understood by a whole that gives them their meaning. A holistic painting, which cannot be reduced to the sum of its parts and which eludes any pre-established definition.
Forms and gestures borrowed, without any hierarchy, from the great narratives of the medium, but also from the history of its motifs, that of hunting scenes, floral decorations and tapestries.
A work painted on canvas or wood, on the floor or on the wall, as required, in a constant back and forth. Prints by transfer, as he always does, but also precise gestures, slow or fast, made with brushes, of course, but also with various tools.
Everything is up for grabs for the artist, who sees the frame as an object on which to build his own territory, using borrowings and inventions.
Born in Limoges in 1983, Julien des Monstiers is a French painter who lives and works between Faye-la-Vineuse (Indre-et-Loire) and Paris. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2008 (Jean-Michel Alberola's studio).
Delicate to put in place, the "Swiss-style" binding allows you to open the book fully and take full advantage of the double-page images.
