In 2012, Sylvie Selig began painting River of No Return, continuing the cycle of her major pictorial narratives. The narrative of this monumental work invites us to wander around and discover the 140 personalities from the world of art (visual arts, music, literature, architecture, design, etc.) whom the artist calls upon in her representations and in the text inscribed on the canvas.
Inspired by the narrative outline of a film, River of No Return tells the story of three young people - a girl and two boys - who, at the instigation of a young woman, venture out in a boat and follow the course of a river.
Successively confronted with characters, landscapes and objects that evoke artists or works of the XXᵉsiècle, the protagonists embark on an epic with no return.
