François Avril (1961-) lives and works between Paris, Port Blanc, Orléans and Brussels. He began his career as an illustrator, working for the press (Atmosphère, Lire, Libération, etc.), advertising (Chanel, Hermès, John Lobb, Paris Plages, etc.) and children's publishing. He has also produced several comic strips. Working on small formats as well as large canvases, in coloured pencil, acrylic or oil pastel, François Avril never stops exploring techniques and reinventing himself.
Yet his two favourite subjects remain constant: cities and the seaside. Inspired by major cities (Paris, New York, Brussels, Tokyo) and the natural beauty of Brittany's coastline, whose essence he captures, François Avril creates renewed landscapes, working with his memory and the imprint of the emotions that have run through him. François Avril's poetic universe balances realism and abstraction, line and volume, monochrome and colour.
