At the dawn of the 2000s, Thomas Labarthe discovered Jean Dubuffet at the Centre Pompidou. This posthumous encounter, through a retrospective exhibition, was for him "a real electroshock, but also an eye-opener". Three months later, the young man painted Mala Bestia, his first canvas.
Since then, Toma-L has painted instinctively, freely, on the bangs of any concept, concentrating on his gut and his gesture. With dissipated characters, lines and shapes under tension, the painter brings out a restless, turbulent, charcoal people on paper or canvas.
