"Comme un parfum d'aventure" is inspired by the recent collective and worldwide experience of confinement imposed for health reasons and almost concomitantly on a majority of people on the planet. This book explores the question of displacement, from the earliest steps of humanity, to the contemporary context of a fluid world where the movement of people, things and ideas is amplified to excess by globalisation. It considers myths and conquests, the regulation of movement by borders, political ideologies, economic systems and the great migratory movements that are closely linked to them, as well as the impact of climate change on the massive and growing movements of populations.

Conceived as an extension of the exhibition presented at macLyon in 2020-2021, the catalogue brings together original essays by Nora N. Khan, American curator and art critic, French sociologist Éric Le Breton and Marilou Laneuville and Matthieu Lelièvre, the curators of the exhibition. It develops twelve chapters that follow the chronological and thematic progression of the exhibition. The book is enhanced by a rich iconography that includes views of the exhibition at macLYON and visuals of the works on display.
