First major monograph devoted to the artist's work. It testifies to more than twenty years of creation and development. But above all, it reflects a constancy and an unfailing commitment to painting. At the same time nourished by the history of art and marked by freedom, Fabienne Gaston-Dreyfus is a natural colourist.

This monograph is published on the occasion of the exhibition presented at Galerie Jean Fournier, Paris (September 10 to November 5, 2022).
Since the 2000s, Fabienne Gaston-Dreyfus has been involved in painting with “sticks of dynamites” like her illustrious Fauvism elders at the beginning of the 20th century. She handles pure colors by juxtapositions, by coverings, by blocks, without the viewer ever feeling disgusted but always more jubilation. If the supports vary, Fabienne Gaston-Dreyfus favors large formats amplifying the physical sensation and the haptic effect of her works.
Color is essential, shape is fundamental. The classic geometric vocabulary is undermined: the squares are not completely square, the curves are not regular but everything fits together and adjusts to the heart of a solid balance. And we think of Philip Guston, an immense American painter whom Fabienne Gaston-Dreyfus admires.
She designed this monograph according to an inverted chronology to trace the thread of her memory, reshuffle the cards of an over-expected linearity and thus update a certain "childhood of art" as Camille Viéville points out in her text. Her point of view, as well as those of the artist Damien Cabanes and the writer Claire Dumay, form so many keys to reading the work of this discreet and determined artist. Preface Émilie Ovaere-Corthay, Director of the Jean Fournier gallery.
