Since 2006, photography has played a major role in the Pinault Collection. From Gustave Le Gray to Cindy Sherman, from Irving Penn to Wolfgang Tillmans, via Raymond Depardon and Lee Miller, successive exhibitions have built up a body of reference work in the field.

Both historical and contemporary, the Pinault Collection reflects the richness and diversity of the photographic medium. In 2014, it acquired one of the six editions of Henri Cartier-Bresson's “Master Collection”: a set of 385 photographs.
More recently, Pinault Collection acquired an exceptional collection from the Condé Nast press photography collection, a selection of which was presented at Palazzo Grassi, Venice, in the exhibition “Chronorama. Photographic Treasures of the 20th Century”.
This time, in this ambitious publication, Matthieu Humery (in charge of photography at the Pinault Collection) presents 100 masterpieces from the Pinault Collection and draws up a history of photography through the prism of the Collection.
