The entire history of this hanging is retraced: from the long process of preparing the weavings, of which samples and cartoons are presented, to the technical choices made to interpret the works of the famous author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in weaving.
Sixteen weavings - 14 tapestries and 2 carpets - have been created from original illustrations by J.R.R. Tolkien to accompany his written works.
Over a period of seven years, their implementation involved six workshops and manufactures and more than thirty professionals in the tapestry industry. This publication tells the story of this extraordinary shared adventure, paying tribute to the work accomplished and providing the reader with the historical and technical keys to understanding and appreciating it.
Contributions from specialists in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and his youngest son, Christopher, who was closely involved in the preparation of this project, aim to put the hanging and its models into context.
