Exhibition Catalogue Modigliani, a Painter and his Art Dealer, presented at the Musée de l'Orangerie, Paris (September 20th, 2023 to January 15th, 2024).
When Amedeo Modigliani met the gallery owner Paul Guillaume in 1914, in cosmopolitan Paris, the artist was at a turning point in his career : he abandoned sculpture to devote himself exclusively to painting. Guillaume bought, sold, and collected more than a hundred and fifty of his works.
The book highlights their shared love of African art as well as the decisive role played by Guillaume in promoting Modigliani's work on the French and United States art markets following the artist's death.
