Painter, at the forefront of the Supports/Surfaces movement from the beginning of the 1960s, Jean-Michel Meurice has built a constant and vigorous body of work. The rigor learned from history blends with the vital energy of colors and the freedom of spaces open to new forms.
At the same time, he regularly takes the camera and leaves the solitude of the studio to live his time and film the cultural, political, economic and social issues of our time. Author of more than a hundred documentary films, he is convinced of the good use of television for the dissemination of culture. Jean-Michel Meurice is one of the founders of La Sept, which has now become Arte.
This double work, of the brush and the camera, was distinguished by the Grand Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts for Painting and by the National Grand Prize for Audiovisual Creation.
