Exhibition Catalogue Raoul Dufy, the Colors of Joy, presented at the musée Jean Cocteau collection Séverin Wunderman, Menton (20 may - 9 october 2017).
The work of the poet presented in Menton reflects and crowns the lifetime's work of a passionate collector. Raoul Dufy's works are now gathered here according to the same principles of private collection: faithfulness to the artist and originality of choice.
A talented draughtsman and painter, Dufy was inspired, like Cocteau, by the colours and light of the Mediterranean. He too broke down the barriers between the arts to work in paint, ceramic, tapestry, fashion, theatre and publishing.
Raoul Dufy fits into no category; he was above all an experimenter, creating a style instantly recognizable by the dissociation of form and coulour, the impression of movement and rhythm, sharing with us his joy in life.
