Exhibition catalogue Christian Dior. The spirit of perfumes, présented at the Musée International de la Parfumerie, Grasse (17 may - 1st october 2017).
The year 1947 was a crucial one for Christian Dior. It was then that the fashion designer simultaneously founded his maison and his perfume factory in Paris. The success of his first essence, Miss Dior, was so outstanding as to leave its permanent mark in history. Ten years later, on 24 October 1957, Christian Dior’s untimely death conferred a new dimension to a decade characterized by an uncommon destiny.
The success of his first essence, Miss Dior, was so outstanding as to leave its permanent mark in history. Ten years later, on 24 October 1957, Christian Dior’s untimely death conferred a new dimension to a decade characterized by an uncommon destiny. Hence the Musée International de la Parfumerie pays its tribute to this fashion designer-perfumer on the 70th anniversary of Miss Dior and of the New Look.
The exhibition focuses on the important moments of Christian Dior’s emblematic life, as well as on his most famous olfactive creations. Inspired by the Belle Epoque and the floral universe, the couturier created a return to French elegance and a rediscovered femininity. Lily of the Valley, Corolla, Rose were all at the heart of his universe, producing Diorissimo, and bouquets for Miss Dior.
