At the very heart of the society and artistic whirl of the capital, he was passionate about the theater, the Ballets Russes, music and painting. Winds of freedom, modernity and delight swept over the Poiret couture house.
He was the first designer to launch his own perfume company, Les Parfums de Rosine (1911), and never tired of conceiving and blending fashion in space and the art of living. Famous for his sumptuous parties, synonymous with the Roaring Twenties, décor and audacity – anything was possible.
A public relations man before his time, Paul Poiret fashioned his mode with the support of celebrated painters and illustrators. The advertising developed for his perfumes sparked the imagination. Adulated, rich and famous, the king of this profuse Art Deco period perished in 1944, forlorn and destitute.
