Exhibition Catalogue Velickovic. The grand style and the tragic, presented at the Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc, Landerneau (15 dec. 2019 - 26 april 2020).
An unprecedented retrospective embracing the totality of the artist's oeuvre. Velickovic had been working on it for two years when he died unexpectedly. He collaborated closely with Jean-Luc Chalumeau, the exhibition curator, on that presentation bearing the title : The grand style and the tragic.
His work unveils painting of death, the moment preceding death and its unbearable suffering, and it represents a moving testimony on the human condition thanks to his mastery of what is called the « grand style »..
An uncompromising painter, he only achieved that mastery by choosing to ignore « beauty that is small and fleeting » according to Nietzsche's expression.
The original contributions of the authors gathered in this book - Amélie Adamo, Jean-Luc Nancy, Michel Onfray, Gérard Titus-Carmel - as well as the texts presented in an anthology, and the countless and surprising archival images collected here, contribute to revitalise looking at this exceptional artist.
