Exhibition Catalogue Mathieu Cherkit, presented at Espace Julio Gonzalez, Arcueil (10 may - 8 june2019).
Each of his paintings opens a door to one of the rooms in this house, where the human figure is absent or represented in a fragmented way to better leave room for the objects that inhabit them. This recurrently represented residential setting becomes familiar, but this familiarity quickly reveals itself parasitized by strangeness: singular formal distortions, gateways to mental, intimate and dreamlike microcosms. A reflection on the painting itself.
