> Exhibition "Rembrandt and His School: Masterworks from the Frick and Lugt Collections" shown at the Frick collection, New York, United States (February 15 - May 15, 2011)
’ The passion of Frits Lugt (1884-1970) for Rembrandt went back to his childhood. Although the image of Rembrandt as a draughtsman and the definition of his oeuvre have undergone significant revision over the past few decades, most of the sheets that Lugt collected as by Rembrandt have withstood expert criticism.
Years of research into drawings by Rembrandt and the artists in his circle undertaken by Peter Schatborn at the Rijksmuseum’s Rijksprentenkabinet have generated new insights into the authorship of numerous drawings. This catalogue contains meticulous descriptions and images of drawings by Rembrandt himself, and by Jacob Backer, Ferdinand Bol, Anthonie van Borssom, Lambert Doomer, Gerbrandt van den Eeckhout, Carel Fabritius, Govert Flinck, Samuel van Hoogstraten, Jacob Koninck, Pieter Lastman, Johannes Leupenius, Jan Lievens, Nicolaes Maes, Roelant Roghman, Jacob de Wet, Pieter de With and others.
The catalogue consists of a text volume and a volume of plates. The colour reproductions of the drawings were made directly from the originals. Included are x-ray reproductions of the watermarks found in the paper, a full bibliography, comparative illustrations and a detailed index.’
