Exhibition Catalogue Annette Messager: Dessus Dessous, presented at the Musée des Beaux-arts de Calais and the Cité de la dentelle et de la mode de Calais (17 October 2015 - 15 May 2016).
This is the first time that an artistic residency has been organised, demonstrating the interest of the two institutions in creation and the links that have long existed between art and fashion, craft and industry, creation and heritage, knowledge and know-how, transmission and gesture. "Dessus Dessous" is also an exhibition that tells the story of the artist's relationship with her older works and with the town of Calais.
Nineteen works and installations take place in the two museums, in which Annette Messager also wishes to pay tribute to the textile industry, which is particularly important to the region, fascinated by the work of dressmakers and the manufacture of lace: "These little pieces of tulle or lace, so light, so delicate, so sophisticated, magically emerge from the belly of enormous, vibrating, noisy machines, a mysterious enchantment! "Annette Messager.
These works are about odysseys, travelling, Rodin, but also fashion, dressmakers, tights and bras.
