160 years ago, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Textiles opened its doors in Lyon, inaugurating the concept of the decorative arts museum in France. In 1891, it became the Musée Historique des Tissus, and in 1925, a second museum dedicated to the decorative arts was added.

Since 1864, the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Textiles in Lyon have continued to diversify, adding the finest fabrics from the East and West, Lyon silks and, more recently, contemporary pieces.
The catalogue takes a fresh look at the world's largest collection of fabrics and second-largest collection of decorative art, in a bilingual work in which nearly eighty authors and experts in their fields have written one hundred and sixty entries, all of which are new discoveries for the general public.
The selection is based on emblematic works, those rediscovered during the move, favourites that the museum team wanted to share, and suggestions from the specialists who wrote the notes.
