Published to coincide with the exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris in 2012, Art Spiegelman's seminal monograph is reissued and updated.

Original plates are reproduced, reflecting the various stages of production, as well as a host of drawings and the most spectacular of his magazine covers.

An introduction by Jim Hoberman links Spiegelman's work to the history of the 20th century, and to the history of comics.

As an art historian, Robert Storr examines the conditions of publication of Maus, its satirical and protean character within Spiegelman's work, and puts it into perspective with the fascination for horror of post-war artists. He also offers a formal analysis, focusing in particular on Spiegelman's fidelity to the comic-book genre, between fiction and non-fiction.
