Exhibition Catalogue Bodies Christian Dotremont - Painter, Poet, presented at Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels (28 April - 7 August 2022).
His 'logograms', or visual poems, emerge spontaneously from the meandering brush to produce an unprecedented form of artistic expression. The words that he impulsively lays down on paper seem to be animated by a spirit of their own and end up creating expressive compositions. Writing and painting truly merge and open a path to endless experimentations.
A catalogue that immerses the reader in the extraordinary variety of logograms made by Dotremont through more than 120 works on paper, photographs, films and some archival pieces presented for the very first time to the public.
Slip into the artist's suitcase to discover his wandering creative journey. In addition to the logograms, the tour presents a selection of "word drawings" and other four-handed works made with Pierre Alechinsky, Asger Jorn, Serge Vandercam, Hugo Claus, etc. Other visual artists of writing such as Henri Michaux, René Guiette, Jean Raine, Jules Lismonde, Jacques Calonne dialogue with the work of Dotremont.
